Difference between Orinoco and Rajapuri:
Hey guys,
I just bought a Rajapuri from a local greenhouse (along with a Basjoo and a nice sized Butia Capitata). Can anyone tell me the physical differences between Orinoco and Rajapuri, because this Rajapuri looks like an Orinoco to me. I can take a picture tomorrow hopefully. The reason I worry is because the greenhouse also sold Orinoco, but they Identified Basjoo right, so I am right in the middle. So what are the differences between the two? :2236: Please help me out! Taylor,
Please post a picture here of the plant sold as "Rajapuri". |
Re: Difference between Orinoco and Rajapuri:
RajaPuri has tighter steps in the crown and less graceful, more upright leaves than Orinoco.
It's also more stout; somewhat thicker pseudostem (relatively speaking) and shorter than Orinoco. The bloom compared with Orinoco is very different, the bud has many more bracts folding over each other at the tip, and the male flowers stay on the raceme. The female flowers are different as well, I think we have pictures of both here in the gallery and/or the wiki. |
Re: Difference between Orinoco and Rajapuri:
My rajapuri had some red on the leaves when it was small, and the orinoco didn't have any. The orinoco did have a slight pink line tracing the outside of the leaf. the orinoco grew much, much taller way faster. The rajapuri looked a lot shorter. My rajapuri did not do well overwintering under my house where orinoco kept a green leaf and was pushing one out.
