Pineapple suckers/slips
Hello,
I'm new to the forum and don't know exactly how this works but was wondering if anyone has tried the Queen variety pineapples. I'm currently growing the smooth cayanne, sugarloaf, and MD-2 varieties and was wondering how the Queens taste? I have recently grown a passion for pineapples and my mission is to grow and try as many varities as possible. Thanks, hope to hear from someone soon. |
Re: Pineapple suckers/slips
I only grow Smooth Cayenne and Natal Queen. Have yet to fruit the Natal Queen. The Smooth Cayenne is hands down the best fruit of any sort I've ever tasted. What a difference letting them ripen on the plant and eating withing hours of harvesting makes!

Hello & Welcome. I grow several, they are easy to grow, but haven't fruited any as of yet. :^)

Re: Pineapple suckers/slips
Yeah the smooth cayenne are pretty tasty, the MD-2 variety seems to taste the best though (only my opinion). I have herd the natal queens are really good as well but can't seem to get my hands on any pups. I will upload some pics of my MD-2 that is currently flowering.

Just harvested a smooth Cayenne, home grown rocks.......... a taste sensation.
Photobucket is the way to go. |
Re: Pineapple suckers/slips
I use an apple core placed in 2 year old plants to force the plant to bloom.

[/IMG]Plant is flowering. The plant is quiet large I'd say 6'x6' in diameter. |
Re: Pineapple suckers/slips
Crowns are a whole lot larger on fully ripened pineapples versus the store bought.

Re: Pineapple suckers/slips
No the photo is not photo shopped. The lens had been touched with my finger before taking the pic. I took the picture on my travertine deck. I have about 50 pineapples flowering right now and should have some pic's of them on the stock soon. I wish i could photoshop that good though, lol.
