Pahoa, Hawaii Island, State of Hawaii
I live in the country on an acre of land. I have 6 bananas...Dwarf Cavendish, Dwarf Apple, Dwarf Cuban Red, a Dwarf Red, an unknown variety from a lady in Hilo, and Kluay Khai (a Thai dessert banana). I live on a lava flow and have no soil...only solid lava (rock). I do live in a rain forrest with about 200 inches of rain a year. To be able to grow the bananas and obtain fruit I have them all planted in a raised bed with soil. I'd send a photograph, but I haven't learned how to attach things yet.

A warm welcome, DOMinPuna, to the org from the state of Maryland. Sounds like you already have some knowledge of banana growing, but there is a wealth of information here and a wonderful community. Attaching a pic is actually quite easy. First, add it to your gallery via upload, then right click the pic and select 'copy image location'. In the posting where you want the pic to go, click the 'mountain' icon above the text, then add the 'copy image location' to the box via paste. and hit 'OK'. That should do it. We'd love to see your garden.

Bananas of Hawaii Poster
The above URL is a poster showing Hawaiian Bananas. The quality is good and one can zero in on individual bananas to see what the fruit looks like. |

BANANA Fruit Facts
The above URL was one of the first bits of information I found on line...I hope others find it of interest. DOMinPuna |
