Hello everyone, I just want to thank you all for all the knowledge I've been able to get from this website. My kids and I have started to give attention to the bananas growing in our yard after several years of neglect, this site has been a huge help.

Good for you in tending your banana flock!

As I drive around our area (Cape Canaveral) I look with pity at the neglected banana plants. Poor things, not a drop of manure in sight! The plants at my neighbor across the street have hardly grown a foot this year. (Meanwhile my jungle...)

Caring for banana plants is a terrific pleasure. And this group, full of rather eccentric people, is as fun as the bananas.

With hurricane season coming near, there is one *coastal Florida tip*: give the bananas a haircut the day before a hurricane arrives. (Remove all the lower leaves, leaving just the top few.) The plant is then less likely to get sucked out of the ground. It might diminish that specific stem's ability to fruit, but that stem can just feed the corm and help the next generation.
