New member in Rancho Cordova California

I'm new to bananas but have been trying to learn gardening for 5 years.
I started by removing ALL lawn
I then purchased 20 cubic yards of mushroom compost and a rototiller
I have just added a heated and cooled Greenhouse
and purchased a few banana plants

well hello, from sparta tn.:0490:

i like the idea of removing all the grass..the more you mulch the less you mow.i am in the process of doing that myself, one flowerbed at a time!
welcome,welcome.
regular gardening is very different from tropical gardening.there are a lot of people on this forum who have amazing gardens and are a fount of knowledge. and they dont care to answer any question you may have. i know, i ask about 100 questions a day. so again welcome:baloonnaner:

Re: New member in Rancho Cordova California

im about 1-1 1/2 hrs east of nashvegas.:bananajoy: as for the drought yeah were bad but not as bad. weve had a couple days of rain. we were 22 in. below normal and that hurt specially when you have a yard full of roses, peony, dogwoods, and willow trees.:2783:. before we got hit with a hard frost, my roses looked so bad i thought about cutting 1/3 of them off. it upset me because the city instituted a water ban on cars and watering yards....however the buisnesses decided they were gonna water theirs. i was ILL. thats why i decide to plant my banana trees in the house. if your plants are in the house they said you could water them. @#$&, if you know what i mean?

That's great. I love it when people shoot their ornamental lawn. Now if more people would shoot their TV ...

Welcome, Jim, I'm from Isleton. If your neighbor dumps oil down his storm drain it reaches me in a day or two! ;)

Microfarmer and JoeReal are a couple of other local members that can help out with advice, etc. If you happen to be down near the Rio Vista Bridge this summer send me a note and you can check out my bananas. I've got somewhere around 30 with about 25 still in pots, but they'll go in the ground soon.

Hey, Richard, I've been planning on putting in a lawn somewhere around my farmhouse for the past 10 years but just haven't found the "right spot". Over the last 10 years I've probably averaged about 2 hours of TV a year and hardly any of that is at home. I think my wife would like to shoot my notebook! She does not understand how I have good friends all of the world. I even have a good friend from Iran now that is encouraging me to come visit. She really thinks I'm nuts when I suggest that maybe I should go! lol

I commute to work during the week to Rancho Cordova. Our office is in Kilgore Road. One of these days I'm going to plant banana on our huge pot outside the office.

Welcome aboard. Kudos for ditching your lawn! Who needs grass when you can grow bananas?
