Hello from S.F. Bay Area

Hello,

In the last couple of years I have become more aware of what the powers that be consider to be "Food" and "Safe to Eat". I have become inspired by this to grow my own food and after seeing a video on youtube of bananas being grown in the Bay Area, I have decided that I want to take a crack at it. Also my 4 year old son eats 2-3 bananas a day and organic bananas can get expensive. The variety being grown in the youtube video was Ice Cream.

So I'm looking forward to lots of reading on this website. I would also like to hear what varieties other growers in the bay area are having success with.

Cheers

Welcome! I see you're over at San Rafael. I'm just east of Rio Vista and have been growing bananas for about seven years. This was a cold year here with 35 frosts but I'm guessing you are a little bit warmer in the winter than here but also cooler in the summer which is a disadvantage. Good luck!
