Hi there to everybody bananas about life,I am coub,my first effort at growing bananas,I am from south east London in the UK,also a keen gardener,my first effort is with a Red Abyssinian Banana,I have potted it up in a Large pot in the same compost as it came in[adding quite a bit more],at the moment I am feeding with pelleted chicken manure,
As I said it.s my first effort and I noticed the leaves are going brown in places and are spliting.So any advice would be very helpful.

You'll find this a very friendly & helpful site, loaded with info.
The only ornamentals I'm growing are Basjoo & Zebrina so I can only guess at the Maurelii. Two possibilities exist that I'm aware of. My Basjoo is showing identical symptoms. I suspect either nematodes (can be common in overly rich soils) or too much sunlight. Are you growing it indoors or out?

BTW, it will help us, to help you more, if we know more about your growing zone & weather :).

Welcome coub, I think your plant is probably suffering a little transplant shock with the additional fertilization not helping at this point. Chicken manure is best used when well composted in my opinion. Back off on the fertilizer and let it go for a few weeks, I bet it will perk up.

I had a feeling that the chicken manure was a bit to much,although they are dried pellets[you know the ones you buy in large tubs.
Is there any other feed it may require?:bananas_b:bananas_b

MJ, ther's a Maurelii here for you when you want it.Got any bamboo in trade?
coub, just let it go for a few weeks and you can go sparingly with the chicken manure. That's very high in nitrogen though. There are many opinions on fertilizer I'm currently using espoma citrus because they are a local distributor and easy for me. Check out"fertilizer" in the wiki to get a fast introduction and see the differing opinions of many good growers here.

I've seen that nanner wonderland of yours :cool:. Forget Maurelii & bring on the banana splits :) ! Sides, ya get enough buckshot in fresh rabbit :eek: - don't need any :lurk:ing under the whip cream :ha: ! BTW, I got beautiful, golden skinned.... bamboo just waiting for an edible offer :) and it wants to move to your place.

Welcome to the org coub. Stable sweeps containing horse manure can be applied hot as mulch. Banana plants like it very much, especially when the temps drop, as it gives them a warm cozy feeling. The stable sweeps can be mounded right up on the P-stem. If you must use the dried chicken manure make manure tea and apply it sparingly at the perimeter of the mat. For potassium, feed K-mag at the perimeter....a little goes a long way. Water daily at the perimeter and you should have wonderful healthy productive banana plants. Cheerio! :waving:
