Growing a Travelers Palm (Ravenala Madagascariensis) indoor

Hello! I’m new to this forum so bare with me if I don’t have this down yet.

I purchased a small ravenala madagascariensis as you can see in the pictures.

Currently I live in Portland, OR where the hardiness Zone is 8b. It obviously cannot survive the winter here outdoors (it’s August right now and our lows reach about 57f, in winter it can dip below freezing)

So right now, Just to be safe I bring it indoors every night (that might be excessive) I have had it for roughly a month now since I purchased it back in July and it has grown on the porch pretty well I’d say. Our day time highs reach the mid 80’s and even 90’s. I’m watering it regularly making sure it’s not over or under watered and fertilized it once lightly.

However, the warm weather is ending soon which means he will be indoors full time pretty soon.

Has anyone dealt with this before? I’ve grown bananas and a bird of paradise through the winter before indoors and was wondering if the TP needs similar or more special care?

I would appreciate any tips or advice! (Also is this the only TP physically in the state of Oregon?)

Thanks!

i am attempting to germinate seeds of the south american one right now.....
a nearby town has them planted around the town hall... i might approach the gardener about getting a pup... could be the other var.
anyhow they do bring them outside each year and they are fairly big... this is in zone 6
they are planted in the ground... when i contact the gardener i will ask what temperature they dig them up and bring them in

a local nursery had two huge ones outside their doorway ($1500 CAD each)
and that was fairly early in the spring so they must have some cold tolerance

a customer at work had one in a south facing two story window and it looked nice
happy with that environment it would seem

i got in contact with the gardener
the plants are strelitzia
i did not realize they got so big as these are large specimens

they also have bananas and i got the back story
they were donated by the toronto zoo twenty years ago!
the gentleman has eaten fruit from the plants on several occasions and on a good year
half a dozen will be flowering

he said they bring the plants in at around 10 C overnight temperatures
which is sooner than i bring them in
he said they try to avoid damage and unhappy plants
