Bananas

Hello,
I am a banana grower in Cameroon.
The most most problems we have is the cigar rot disease that affect our bananas.I have used a couple of treatment but the persist though in a low rate.I want a treatment that can erase it in season.
I would be grateful to hear from you.

Re: Bananas

Jonatan,

It is my understanding that this disease is airborne, ususally from discarded material left in the plantation after harvest, thining, or other plantation activities. I would guess that after harvest, collecting all of the waste and burning it or otherwise discarding it away from your plantation might help. Also, cooling the bananas under 14C might also retard the growth on the fungus....

I do not think there is a overnight cure here, but culture practices that will reduce it.

There are better resources than I here; hopefully they will have better answers.
