Photobucket won't host photos for free, so I need to upload some here

Does anyone know why I can't upload photos to my gallery here on the site?

What is the size of the files and extension used (.jpg; jpeg: .gif; .bmp; .pnp )?

I've never used photobucket because I have my own sever, but I have noticed the blocked links for other users. The error message usually indicates the account band width has been exceeded.

... Anyway I just now linked to the photobucket homepage to see what the free account limits were. It appears that Photobucket no longer offer FREE hosting. accounts with hosting, and 3rd party linking start at $40 per month. I suspect this change was necessitated by huge band width usage & cost from the free accounts.

Many computer users have a working older system that can be easily setup as a web sever from your home. And this will allow you to keep your photos & files under your control. You only need a broadband internet connection with a static IP or use "dynamic IP".

If anyone is interested PM me and I'll give you links to FREE programs for the HTML sever and help you setup. ... This also a good way for Mobile users to be able to access & back up files or fax when away from home.

Don't you also need to register a domain name for about $35/year? If not, what does the URL look like?

Also, a server needs to run continuously, right? At 50 watts and an electric cost of $0.11/kWhr, the electric cost to run a server would be $4/month.

With domain name registration ($35/year), you can rent web space for about $4/month from a web hosting service and not worry about server side software. Thus, the monthly cost would be about $7/month.

If you want to register a domain. You can just use the IP number to the sever. Exam. 75.89.223.114 is the static IP for my WWW sever. Enter it into the URL; then CairoNet.com home page will open. Or, http://75.89.223.114/banana/NewBananas-10072016JPG.JPG. Registered Domain not required. However, I think registration through Go Daddy and possibly others is less ($6 to $10 per year).

Usually, the sever run continuously, but it really doesn't have to.

Photobucket hosting without 3rd party linking starts at $5.99/month; with 3rd party linking, $39.99/ month. However, there are still other free photo hosting services; but how long?

I just offered the suggestion of a private web sever as an option. This is a means to keep photos & files under your control without possibly giving away copyrights & ownership to the hosting service. ... Those are good points tho.

Try Flikr....still no cost...some members have transitioned to it and have created some COOL sites.

I went to Flickr. I maxed out on here years ago. The crappy thing is Photobucket didn't warn anyone and immediately blocked all their posts everywhere. All my photos in old posts are gone. I transitioned some recent ones to Flickr and updated the posts but unfortunately many old posts now are basically useless. The last thing anyone should do is reward Photobucket for this kind of awful customer experience.

That is awful customer service and quite a leap, too... from free to $40 a month. Someone got greedy.

Your pics may be too large, I think they need to be 2MB or smaller.
