Yeah I heard that too!

My "Soil" is pretty much sand so my amendments will actually be bringing it closer to real soil. Anything I can do to help the soil hold on to nutrients and water within reason will be of benefit to the avocado.

I also tend to bend the rules occasionally. So far it has worked for me. I guess you just have to apply a little common sense to which rule you are breaking.
