Smile Thinning the Mattes

Heck ("K4YD") stopped by today and helped me thin the mattes....we took out over 50 pups.....26 Dwarf Reds, Dwarf Brazilian and many others...

They are on the road as I post this...if you are looking for a nice corm PM Heck and he "may" cut you a deal....

Oh yeah..he also has dragon fruit cuttings....

Looks like a lot of work but a jungle-in-a-box is the prize.

I love in this pic how you can see the growth just from the time that plant was cut till when the pic was snapped:

You can literally watch banana plants grow before your very eyes.

Anyway... thanks for sharing the pics. I really enjoy seeing pics of when members of Bananas visit each other.

Buenas tardes mi amigo!

Yes, it does remind me of when I lived in Tampa. I always looked forward to hanging out with you and checking out your banana patch (and picking up a few pups ).

Thanks..it was...after the thinning I moved a pile of Horse poop and mixed in about 1,500 pounds of leaves to create a raised bed. I was running my wheelbarrow up the board to keep piling on layers. It is amazing how little is left after the composting process.

[IMG][/IMG][IMG][/IMG]

More thinning today..can you guess which corms are Sabas?

A year or more, that thick takes time; even though carbon and nitrogen are both layered in thoroughly.

Wow...you are going to make me count? :-)...lol

Not sure..let's say a bunch..not Pitangadiego or Nicolas Naranja level....but a lot for a guy in a single family home....

This picture will give you a sense for it....

Well...Heck ("K4YD") took the 50 we pulled out Saturday..I imagine he will sell a few (PM him if you are interested). Over the last month I have thinned a 100 or so...occasionally I will sell a pup or two or pass them on to other board members (preferable) locally. Like just about everywhere this was a brutal winter in Florida..the worse ever in Tampa (as long as they have been keeping records)...Heck lives inland and a little North..so he got hammered even harder...
