Been eating pitaya a few times in the past four days in Nicaragua! Here I've mostly had it as sweetened juice which is quite nice. The pitayas here are dark red.

American Beauty is a selection (cultivar) of Hylocereus guatemalensis. It is self-fertile. Getting the pollen from the anthers into the end of the pistil is another matter. If you don't have ants...

My American Beauty (Hylocereus guatemalensis) is also in bloom production now. The others bloomed later in the summer last year.
