Re: container citrus

I'd recommend Lemons, Limes, and Kumquats. Those will give you lots of useable fruit. I also have grapefruit, oranges and mandarins in pots, but they really don't produce enough fruit to make them...

Re: Sugarloaf Pineapple

I had a sugarloaf fruit in a 1 gallon pot, it was a pretty small fruit but tasted great. Pineapples don't need much soil to grow, but the plants can get pretty wide, they love to jab you as you walk...

Re: Ponderosa Lemon!

My Ponderosa has never grown very fast, either. I had 1 large fruit on it last winter, and it did get bigger this summer, but I wouldn't call it a fast grower.
You might try the Citrus Grower's...

Re: Is their a Chook doctor in the house?

Chickens are attracted to the color red, that is why food dishes and waterers have red on the bottom. Once the girl heals the others will leave her alone.

Re: Patty in Wisc

I'm in shock to hear this awful news. Patty was such a sweet and nice lady, and invited me to her house when I was going to be visiting Milwaukee, although we never managed to get together. She...

Re: Bananas in SE TN...

They look really great, Randy. You can really see a difference in how they grow between planting them out and keeping them in pots. I kept my big ones in the greenhouse because they were just too...

Re: what should I do with my maurelii this winter?

Hi Angie,
I wait until cool weather to dig mine and bring them in. I don't try to keep them growing through the winter, it's just not warm enough or light enough and they sometimes get sick because...

Re: Variegated Basjoo

It reminds me of the one I had, you may see some variegation loss in summer when in good growth, but keep the pot marked and it should come back in fall or spring. You have a nice looking plant!

Re: Variegated Basjoo

I think I had one, the seller called it "Leprechaun", it was more of a Truly Tiny type of Musa. It arrived at my house very smushed but the variegation was visible- later it would only put out...

Re: Trachycarpus fortunei problems/exception...you tell me.

My guess is that it's a shade issue- the larger one perhaps gets a bit more shade than the two smaller ones? Thus less stress, soil stays moister, it grows faster, has more protection from the...

Re: severe weather in US south

Me too, it's all so horrible. Many of the folks affected don't have a lot of money to begin with and losing their homes can be just devastating.

Re: Advice for growing small TC elephant ears?

Put them in 4" square pots (the deep ones if you have them) and keep them warm. Once the roots are to the bottom and sides move them to a 1 gallon pot until you're ready to move them outside.
