Re: Ensete glaucum?

Thank you! I looked it up and that sure is what the photo is. So I wonder which species you would get? I suppose it wouldn't take long for the red to show if it was Ventricosum. I did write to...

Ensete glaucum?

I was looking at seeds for Ensete glaucum and found some on Tradewinds, but their photo look unlike any Ensete glaucum I've seen elsewhere as they have red midribs. What are these if not Ensete...

Re: Greetings from Iraq!

Welcome Tom!

I live in a similar climate. Are your bananas indoors in pots? The difficult thing is going to be your humidity which is probably single digits indoors and out most of the year.

Re: How to catch Fungus Gnats and it really works.

I've found if I start with soil-less mix and put the pots into plastic bags so the top is tented up with the plastic it gives the seedlings a very good head start against the gnats. Once they are...

Re: How to catch Fungus Gnats and it really works.

I tried ACV and actually had much better luck with plain water! I'll try the oil though. These gnats are very annoying! Since I brought in plants for winter they are everywhere.

Re: Greetings from hot Poland

Welcome Dominik! I'm curious, what are your low temperatures in the winter where you live? Are you able to grow them outdoors this time of year?

Re: Treat your soil with respect

If you have neighbors or friends with chickens or other poultry you may be able to score some used bedding/litter. I have chickens and quail and even with three huge compost bins I don't have space...

Re: Manini Photos

I'm amazed at how variable the variegation is on these TC manini. That last one hardly has any chlorophyll!

Re: Anone growing Lacatan bananas?

I finally got a pic of the lacatan. It did unfurl a new leaf since I brought it home. I'm not sure what to do about the yellow on some of the leaves. They were like that when I got it. At least...

Re: Ice Cream/Blue Java banana?

I'm pretty sure mine is too now. The new leaves have pink mid ribs. :( Not that I mind a Namwa, it's just that it wasn't my first choice and I have limited room.

Here is the plant with the current...

Anone growing Lacatan bananas?

I picked up a beat up looking specimen of Lacatan banana at the local rare fruit growers sale, so I'm pretty sure they had it labeled accurately. It was recently potted and had to be propped by...

Re: New variety of Banana discovered

Those things are monsters! Eleven meters? How have they not been "discovered" by the world at large yet when they can grow that huge? I'd love to see one in person, and of course taste the fruit. ...

Re: Goji berry bush help!

Full sun is OK and desirable. Yes it was way too much water. It has been my experience that goji berries will not set fruit if they are not kept a bit on the dry side. They need very good drainage...
