Re: Greetings from Iraq!
Welcome Tom!
I live in a similar climate. Are your bananas indoors in pots? The difficult thing is going to be your humidity which is probably single digits indoors and out most of the year.

Re: Greetings from hot Poland
Welcome Dominik! I'm curious, what are your low temperatures in the winter where you live? Are you able to grow them outdoors this time of year?

Re: Treat your soil with respect
If you have neighbors or friends with chickens or other poultry you may be able to score some used bedding/litter. I have chickens and quail and even with three huge compost bins I don't have space...

Re: Manini Photos
I'm amazed at how variable the variegation is on these TC manini. That last one hardly has any chlorophyll!

Re: Ice Cream/Blue Java banana?
I'm pretty sure mine is too now. The new leaves have pink mid ribs. :( Not that I mind a Namwa, it's just that it wasn't my first choice and I have limited room.
Here is the plant with the current...

Anone growing Lacatan bananas?
I picked up a beat up looking specimen of Lacatan banana at the local rare fruit growers sale, so I'm pretty sure they had it labeled accurately. It was recently potted and had to be propped by...

Re: New variety of Banana discovered
Those things are monsters! Eleven meters? How have they not been "discovered" by the world at large yet when they can grow that huge? I'd love to see one in person, and of course taste the fruit. ...

Not very good odds! Here's a close up of the label.

Re: Goji berry bush help!
Full sun is OK and desirable. Yes it was way too much water. It has been my experience that goji berries will not set fruit if they are not kept a bit on the dry side. They need very good drainage...

Banana Circle
Does anyone here use a banana circle to grow your banana plants? It seems a more common way to grow them in tropical climates, especially where the soil is poor. The center of the circle is...

Ice Cream/Blue Java banana?
I couldn't resist buying this since I've been wanting one, but I've gotten mislabeled bananas at the box stores before. So do you think this is the real...

Re: Too cold for bananas?
People here use these soil warming cables (http://www.quill.com/greenhouse-accessories/cbs/51190579.html?cm_mmc=SEM_PLA_OF_51190579) outside for their tropical trees during our mild frosts, but they...

Re: Too cold for bananas?
I battled spider mites in a grow room. Spider mite predators work wonders. Google them, then buy some.
If you don't mind the aesthetics, by lining the ceiling with reflective film...

Re: New to Bananas.org
Welcome!
How much sun are your nanners getting? If they aren't getting enough there will be no fruit, or less fruit that take a long time to get here.

I found some cheap grow lights on my local Craigslist. I'm sure the original owners didn't use them for growing tropical fruits.:2185:
