You're right, Richard. There's no such thing as a 'Temple Banana'. Bananas are an important part of rituals in Hindu temples, so almost every temple - small or large - will have a banana seller close...

The reason these haven't been discovered so far is that parts of the Andaman Islands are pretty remote, with very few people inhabiting it.

There are seed-bearing varieties in the mainland as well...

Update on this - all original leaves died, and the stem died as well - or so I thought. Today, 3 days after I thought the plant was a goner, a green shoot emerged. Super happy!! Thanks, everyone!

Thanks so much, Going Bananas! This is not a tissue culture plant - it's a regular pup transplant, so am hopeful that the plant will grow new leaves.
