Re: Hydroponics for begginers

Sikkemensis "Red Tiger" vs "Bengal Tiger"

Is there really any difference between Sikkemensis "Red Tiger" and "Bengal Tiger"? Or is it just another sales gimmick? Some sellers claim that "Bengal Tiger" has more color than "Red Tiger", but I...

Re: Wanted: Mekong Giant & Basjoo

FYI. Mekong Giant might work out better than Basjoo for a larger area because it spreads like bamboo, whereas basjoo forms thick, tight clumps.

Re: The REAL Blue Java

I have a variegated tall Namwah and variegated "ice cream" sold to me by the same person. I can't tell the difference. I mixed them up at some point as well. I doubt they are different. Is there any...

Re: Mekong Giant Sources

Be careful with the Mekong. It needs space. I planted mine last summer. It started of slower than the Basjoos this spring but surpassed them by mid summer. Now I have Mekong's popping up everywhere...

Re: Deformed variegation

Thanks. I have seen this come and go in the past on a 'florida'. As I recall, the only difference at the time was that it was directly under a porch light that sometimes stayed on all night. This...

Re: Deformed variegation

Thanks, a nutrient deficiency is what I first thought, only I was thinking calcium so I added dolomite lime. Then I invested in a pH meter and found that this was counter productive since it raised...

Re: My first Manini Corms in 100% perlite

Thanks for the pictures. I have a Florida and a Manini as well, but they both have slender leaves, never round like yours. I wonder if I may not have a true Manini. I'm looking forward to seeing...

Re: Too cold for bananas?

If you cut them all at once, then they will ripen all at once. just remove a couple per day to extend harvest. Commercial bananas are picked well before they are ripe so they can be transported...

Re: Musa tropicana

I am only speaking from my personal experience. Yours may still be young and not yet overcrowded in it's container. Dwarfs of the cavendish variety have unusually large root systems for their size...

Re: Help me grow my banana in a pot

Truly Tiny would be a great candidate for aquaponics. The idea is similar to hydroponics only the aquarium water continuously flows through the gravel medium that your plant is growing in and back to...

Thanks. I am familiar with the characteristics of chimera variegation, and not disappointed in my Manini. I was only showing the Manini to demonstrate that this as of yet undocumented abnormality is...

Re: Deformed variegation

Well it could be too much light. 16 hours is unnatural. I changed the timers to 14 hours, re-potted with fresh potting mix and flushed out possible fertilizer buildup. I'm using the same PH buffered...

Re: What is the best tasting potted banana

Another thing I have noticed about super dwarf and dwarf cavendish is that the root systems are not so small either. They become rootbound very quickly, especially if you allow too many pups to...

Re: Deformed variegation

Thanks. I have them under 600 watts of T5 HO florescent lighting 16 hours a day, so they are getting enough light. I have also seen this happen outside once. I'm thinking it's more likely a nutrient...
