Re: The REAL Blue Java
Unfortunately that happens a lot with Blue Java. Many, many of them turn out to be Namwah. My first banana plant was purchased as a Blue Java, but turned out to be a Namwah. I planted it right inside...

Re: Deformed variegation
Boron deficiency? That's what it is when mine do that. Can be fixed with a very small amount of Borax.

Re: Deformed variegation
This problem isnt an unusual one with variegated plants, but it isnt chronic. The distorted tissue is caused by the rate of growth between the normal green tissue with chlorophyll and the mutant...

Re: Deformed variegation
Great picts! I wish I had a answer for you. I have never seen leaves grow like that. I agree with you that it must be an environmental issue. The plant is missing something. Probably sunlight.

Re: Masa Basjoo Banana
Plant them in May after all risk of frost has past. Musa basjoo will be fine in the ground this upcoming winter 16/17 as long as it is adequately protected, nearly bulletproof.

If the corms he sells are ten lbs then he may not want to advertise that they are in four and one half inch pots.
