Unfortunately that happens a lot with Blue Java. Many, many of them turn out to be Namwah. My first banana plant was purchased as a Blue Java, but turned out to be a Namwah. I planted it right inside...

Your response to the issue makes a lot of sense to me. With this explanation, it appears that very little can be done since you do not have a lighting issue.

Boron deficiency? That's what it is when mine do that. Can be fixed with a very small amount of Borax.

This problem isnt an unusual one with variegated plants, but it isnt chronic. The distorted tissue is caused by the rate of growth between the normal green tissue with chlorophyll and the mutant...

Seems like every variegated variety of plant has these wierd issues. Some need more light and some less. Some nitrogen keeps them stable and others unstable. I deal with deformation with many species...

Great picts! I wish I had a answer for you. I have never seen leaves grow like that. I agree with you that it must be an environmental issue. The plant is missing something. Probably sunlight.

Plant them in May after all risk of frost has past. Musa basjoo will be fine in the ground this upcoming winter 16/17 as long as it is adequately protected, nearly bulletproof.

the mekongs brian has at that price are for huge corms id say 10 plus pounds, while the ones from wellspring are tc plants. mekong giant is a seed selection from brian from seed collected in china...

If I recall correctly, Gabe said several years ago that my Variegated Tanee is probably Balbisiana. My pups grow well. Our winter was fairly mild so I'm hoping that my mother plant fruits this...
