to sterilize the medium I use a pressure cooker for my orchid media when I flask them..i have had success in oven,but easer to use pressure cooker...tissue itself..have here 10% bleach 3% hydrogen...

do you scar the seeds???try a nail file and scar two sides..i use this method for hard to germ seeds..works very well for me..if they have a natural seam file it a little to help them split..

I am just west of tampa myself..i have never cut or needed to wrap..even wind blown leaves grow..i only cut off brown..my praying hands,blue java,dwarf red and orinocos all do well with out any...

if not mistaken..older post of nanner farm in GA.growing Orinoco..i bet if you keep an eye out,finding a wild of simi wild clump in GA. is a possibility...

you could trim all but the top most frons,leave at least 4.and tie them up with plastic wrap..pile either dry straw or pine needles to the top and then wrap..less to get cold easy to do..

I have had mine growing for 2 years now..total is about 10 ft so far..if it were stretched out..i keep mine portable aswell..milk crate lined with weed block fabric..couple of 2 inch wood branches...
