Re: Containers and fruit
I have had White Iholena and Raja Puri fruit in 45 gallon pots . I used potting soil mixed with perlite. I would advise staking any fruiting pseudostems . Given our California Santa Ana winds.

Re: Chronic problems with Sunburn and Rot
I would refrain from using coffee grounds unless they are fully composted first (allelopathic ). Last year 114 F temperatures and afternoon sunshine totally fried some of my banana and avocado...

Re: What are these?
I get the same looking thing in Monterey Park , CA. I am guessing they are a Namwah variety. Try to pickup the fattest kind. The thinner ones sometimes are not completely developed in the center.

Re: New to banana plants!
I have tried cutting out any mushy black areas with a sterilized tool. Never had any luck. I wish I had better news for you. I have read on this forum to buy pups with at least four leaves on it....

Re: New to banana plants!
Hi Kristen
You might consider buying on of those two prong water indicators . I have lost a lot of plants with overwatering. I would only water if the soil is dry.

Some plants are allelopathic so putting them near your plants may be a disaster. I would first check on the net. I use very decomposed material around my bananas.

Re: Looking for banana seeds
Sego Nursery in Valley Village not too far from you has a few varieties. But choose carefully . Sometimes they have mushy pseudostems.

Re: Brown burn spots on leaves (pic)
My Raja Puri here in the San Fernando Valley (So Cal) started off this year with partially burnt looking leaves but the subsequent leaves are fine. Is that an Ensete Maurelli you have?

Re: Water Requirements
I am in North Hollywood , CA . I have killed many banana plants by overwatering. I use a moisture meter now and the survival rate is better. I only water if the meter indicates dry. If you are in the...
