Re: Ginger root
I grow ginger and tumeric, live about an hour North of Atlanta. I don't try to overwinter it outside, but even within one season the happiest plants flower, and I have plenty to harvest at first...

Re: Hitting Reset and refocusing a bit
Same question as the other reply about cost (I'm scheduled to come South to Orlando for the Thanksgiving holiday, but I think Pahokee is a little far for me).
I've been keeping a low profile, but...

Re: Back online - now from GA (North Atlanta)
That's disappointing- I had one for years in Seattle, and it never got bigger than my rhubarb plants. I was hoping I could get better results with a little heat. The good news is that water won't be...

Looking for any active members in the North Atlanta area (I've just relocated to Gainesville GA from Seattle). I donated my large (potted) collection to another member before I moved, so I'm looking...

Re: Datil
Actually, I wasn't picky about the specific cultivars- my initial goal was to look at differences based on genotype (AA, AAB, AABB, etc) and the datil just filled one of my genotype categories. Of...

Re: Datil
The original came from the PR USDA Agricultural research station, so I took their word for it. It is always possible that they made a mistake, but I don't have the expertise to contradict them ;-)

African red?
Hi all-
I was in Florida this past week, and took a side trip to a big-box store and found a couple of bananas I didn't have. One was marked 'African Red', but after doing some web searching, I see...

Overwintering
Due to the cold climate here, I keep almost all my bananas in pots. In the winter they are inside in front of some windows, with no extra lighting. I try to keep the soil on the dryer side, but there...

Just wondering, when folks on the group give USDA zones for different bananas, is that for having the pstem survive the winter (without any additional help) or is that just the corm?
Trying to...

Re: 25 gallon Nursery pots.
Local soda distributors like coca cola or pepsi plants. It has been a few years, but last time I went to one they gave me about 4 55g plastic barrels, and about 20 5-gal pails. Free. I've also found...

And if you have more than one potted banana, try adding nitrogen to one. IIRC, green compost sucks nitrogen, so you may have to augment it.
A better option may be to mix half green material (lawn...
