Plant Delights out of North Carolina typically has them. I believe they may be TC'd, however, and are often very slow to get going. I purchased one from them last spring and every leaf it pushed...

I agree about the lack of air. Lack of oxygen into the soil causes an anaerobic condition (hence the nasty smell) and can also help lead to the root rot if there is too much moisture present.

Try wrapping the pseudostems in several layers of frost cloth. I do that successfully with my bananas in Houston and I routinely get frost at my house each winter.
