Nice looking healthy plant - I'm no expert on 'ice creams' having unsuccessfully purchased or traded for a blue java 4 times now. Your ice cream looks like a namwa to me.

I grow ginger and tumeric, live about an hour North of Atlanta. I don't try to overwinter it outside, but even within one season the happiest plants flower, and I have plenty to harvest at first...

The culinary ginger plant is probably safe to grow outside in your area if you are in 8b-9 Climate Zone. If you are unsure, plant the rhizome/plant close to your house as you can. I have grown...

SH3640, Pisang Ceylon and FHIA2 Mona Lisa. Have been running around to the neighbors giving fruit away. And the big Lula avocado still has over 50 fruit...

I had the same issue when I bought an "ice cream banana" a year ago. It's finally flowered and I'll post for an ID soon. There are many knowledgeable folks on this forum who are happy to help.
