Re: Cali girl

You may want to mention to the current owner that cutting them at ground level will not really fix the problem. The main part of the banana is the corm which is just under the ground below the...

Re: Question on Maoli

If I had to guess it is probably to verify if your plant is indeed what you think it is. Usually the flower is a good way to ID banana plants.

Re: My Musa basjoo is flowering.. will it die?

Yep, cut it off if it is unsightly but do not dig. All of your bananas are connected to an underground corm and you will kill all of them if you dig it up.

Re: Mari

I do not think it is a good idea to remove all the pups. The corm makes pups because when a psuedostem fruits it dies and it needs a pup to make a new plant.

Re: Cold Hardy Banana Plant Questions

Leave it alone and the wind should dry out any leaves that are going to die and knock them off. If it is growing new leaves you are doing ok but you may want to switch to a time release fertilizer to...

Re: Banana health problem

You overfertilized. Straight fertilizer plus lots of rain means it got hit all at once. This is one of the reasons I stick with time release banana fertilizer.

Re: Wanted, Double Mahoi!

If you can't find it on here you can probably get it from Raintree nursery. It is about the only banana that they sell. Bought mine from them several years ago. My first banana which means that while...

Re: I got my Variegated Florida!

Your florida should be fine. The leaves look like they have more light green instead of straight white strips like my Ae Ae and should take sun easier. Water well and fertilize and post if it fruits....

Re: When Bananas Become Communist

Dig up the corms you do not want. Otherwise all your removing is the stem and they WILL come back from the roots. It took a few years but I saw someone eradicate a bunch of bananas by digging up the...

Re: New plant turning brown after transfer to pot.

Most of my pots are self watering. I have not noticed any issues with it but I do not water from the bottom. The pots act as reservoirs for the plant to either reach with its roots or the heat in the...

Re: New plant turning brown after transfer to pot.

I don't think 55 f is low enough to affect a regular non fussy cultivar like cavendish. Check the drain holes in that pot. Did you scratch around the roots when you repotted to get them growing...

Re: Looking for banana seeds

Yep, what you probably need to buy are corms and small plants. They grow fast especially in your zone. Check the for sale section on here for some reputable growers.
