About an hour out from Houston towards Louisiana but unlike all of the other plants you listed bananas like LOTS of water and a good fertilizer. We got around 40 inches of rain in hurricane harvey...

Re: Cali girl
You may want to mention to the current owner that cutting them at ground level will not really fix the problem. The main part of the banana is the corm which is just under the ground below the...

Re: Newbe
Bananas psuedostems usually die after fruiting and the pups take over , fruit, and then die and the cycle begins again. As long as it is not cold outside fertilize with a time release fertilizer and...

Re: Where to buy banana fruit online?
I ordered this https://www.melissas.com/Banana-Sampler-p/59.htm and they arrived under ripe but are ripening nicely in a fruit bowl. The price is much more reasonable than miami fruit and though they...

Re: Question on Maoli
If I had to guess it is probably to verify if your plant is indeed what you think it is. Usually the flower is a good way to ID banana plants.

Re: Florida Banana
I have an Aeae in the ground this year from PR giants. I also bought one of those variegated florida bananas off of ebay. It is in a pot but probably needs to be planted for a bit. I will try to get...

Re: Who Lost Their Bananas????
Mine had a 98% survival rate after the cold snap early this year. The others just looked dead until you cut off the brown stuff. Down near Beaumont.

Re: Mari
I do not think it is a good idea to remove all the pups. The corm makes pups because when a psuedostem fruits it dies and it needs a pup to make a new plant.

Re: Cold Hardy Banana Plant Questions
Leave it alone and the wind should dry out any leaves that are going to die and knock them off. If it is growing new leaves you are doing ok but you may want to switch to a time release fertilizer to...

Depending on what the pot is made of either drill a hole or simply poke a few with a push pin down at the lower sides of the pot. If water pours out you know it needs drainage. You might also want to...

Re: Banana health problem
You overfertilized. Straight fertilizer plus lots of rain means it got hit all at once. This is one of the reasons I stick with time release banana fertilizer.

Re: I got my Variegated Florida!
Your florida should be fine. The leaves look like they have more light green instead of straight white strips like my Ae Ae and should take sun easier. Water well and fertilize and post if it fruits....

Re: When Bananas Become Communist
Probably not a good idea. I have used roundup in moderation when dealing with poison ivy but I do not soak it into the soil as who knows how long it would persist and you do NOT want groundwater to...
