Re: I got my AeAe!

The variegation on yours looks like the Ae Ae. The florida variegated is different. Mine also had pink on the midribs and petioles. Yours looks fine.

Congrats! :08:

Re: Dwarf Cav or Super Dwarf?

The compact growth looks like SDC, but those will flower and fruit even if no taller than 4'.

Re: Dwarf Cavendish and Blue Java tree pests help!

Rabbits hate the smell of blood scented rodent repellent, maybe it works for squirrels, too.

Re: New Banana pup - Blue Java I think

Correct, they were unripe, but the mama nana didn't give us a choice. They were far enough along, though, that they did complete the ripening process and were eventually edible.

Re: New Banana pup - Blue Java I think

Thanks for the comments.

I don't think they had reached their peak ripeness, yet. Inside color was very pale, almost white. Texture was very light, almost fluffy. Flavor very mild with a hint of...

New Banana pup - Blue Java I think

My brother in law had these growing on his property, and I thought it looked like the 'legendary' Blue Java.

Re: Banana dwarf identification

The leaves are pretty short (esp the petioles), and there is very little height difference between where they emerge from the p-stem. No way would I think that was a dwarf cav.

Your plants don't...

Re: where to buy blue java plants

I would never buy from florida 'shill' nursery. I don't even know if they could get me to take anything for free.

Re: Dwarf papaya seeds wanted

Univ of Hawaii has Waimanalo X-77 which is described as low-bearing. Some think this means it is a dwarf papaya. It is not, it is merely one that begins fruiting at a lower height than most. Last...

Re: First Banana, advice welcome!

Looks on the dry side based on the leaves. When mine looks that way, I water it, and they spread open more.

Re: Red banana tree

Doubt it. I cut off the old leaves, too, and have never had issues. Just don't cut leaf / stem tissue until it is drying / dying, or at least yellow.

Re: Red Banana Leaves Wilting

I've seen bananas grown semi-hydro (roots constantly wet), with the only problem being the size of the plant being too big / heavy for the plant to stay upright.

I've seen some watered every day...

Re: Real deal Blue Java pups for sale!

Yeah, well I've heard that before, just like others on the site. The proof is in the photo. Some bananas are identifiable when young, but most look pretty much alike. An Ae Ae is rather obvious, but...

Re: Dwarf red?

I thought my dwarf red had more color than that when It was small. It eventually reverted back to green. It about 9 ft at the trunk, had over 15 pups, fruit was short and fat, but pretty good...

Re: Chronic problems with Sunburn and Rot

I agree with the radiant heat probably being the problem for the one next to the wall. It will just heat up and roast the banana that is next to it.

Re: off topic / on topic - think some might like.

I used to grow one of those in my aquarium. If you get the water conditions right, the stems will grow longer and longer until the leaves reach the surface of the water just like a mini lily pad. ...

Re: Apple or iceceam?

Apple bananas where I live are quite tall in contrast to the small fruit they make. Here you would expect to see a 15 - 20 ft p-stem.

Re: Hi. I'm new here and I'm in need of advice. Please help.

Think of a cactus that is capable of growing like a vine. I've had them grow vertically against a tree, and their roots will grow around the tree to anchor it in place.

Re: hello banana lovers

It's only too late when you are on the other side of the dirt. You can still grow'em that way too in a manner of speaking.
