Re: Edible Taro Root

I have whatever variety of Taro that my local Rowe's IGA sells. I bought them, soaked them for a day, and then just planted them in some dirt. Some failed to sprout, and some didn't. I also did this...

Re: Loquats

I am always looking for Loquat scions. I’m air-layering my Big Jim right now. In a couple of years I’ll have numerous Big Jim scions to sell if you are still grafting them then. I’ve got two dozen...

Congrats on the fruit!

I have two "Dwarf Namwahs" that were bought at the same time, and from the same person, and they have fruited at different heights. This happens in the tissue culture world....

Re: Indoor Dwarf Banana Folding Leaves

Indoor plants need less watering than outdoor. Let it go a little bit dry for a day. I water my Musa Dwarf Red once every 4-5 days when I bring it in during the winter.

Edit: 4-5 days. though, It's...

Will these fruit?

Hey all,

I am just curious about how I should approach these dwarf namwahs. Both have had one light frosting, and both just flowered. Each leaf has 1/4 leaf unharmed, and the two final leaves...

Hey all, I'm trying to help a coworker find a type of seeded banana that is famously used in Vietnam. She claims that the banana is commonly used medicinally, and it's pulp is quite sweet when fully...

Re: A newbie with a tree problem :-(

You could try to prop it up off of the ground. However, this might do more damage to it.

Re: When it rains it pours, bananas that is!

Lucky! I’m still waiting on my Dwf Namwah to pop out a flower. It’s about 6’8” right now. As of yesterday, I can see another roller leaf poking out. I’m pessimistic about getting fruit by winter....

Re: Banana Circles

Banana circles are good at retaining moisture. When I lived in Eastern Central FL, we had a long dry season every year in summer. If you have the same rain pattern, then a banana circle is a good...

Re: Dwarf Red Growth Rate

I decided to pull the two largest pups off of this plant today. It turns out that about half of the roots had nematode damage. I am assuming that it was from last winter, when I had the pot laying...

I fertilize this weekend. So, I’ll see if it takes off in the next month.

Here's my dwarf red. The pruning was from my preparations for Hurricane Dorian. Since April it has only added about 4 or 5 of those leaves. The newest leaf has taken about two weeks to unfurl. It...

Re: Dwarf Red Growth Rate

My “mahoi” banana plants were in the ground and had the leaves stacked just like the Red. So, I don’t know. I’ll keep an eye on it. It’s just growing really slow. I’ll try to get a picture tonight.

I apologize. I was typing in a rush.

I'm pretty sure that we have the same exact banana plant. I bought a 4 pack of "Mahoi" TC plants off ebay over a year ago. TC's are a crap-shoot when it comes to identification pre-bloom. Hopefully...

Re: When to divide?

Most folks say to separate pups when the smaller one is about 2ft tall (average height of knee?). That's the point that I have separated offshoots during this season.

Re: Pernambuco Pineapple Plant

Very nice! I recently propagated a few pineapple tops from the grocery store. Those are "Smooth Cayenne," right?

What size of planter pot do you recommend for growing pineapples in up to harvest?...
