Yes, potting soil that has fertilizer in it is fine., but don't give them any extra fertilizer until they grow up.

I haven't grown any seeds myself. There are some threads on starting seeds. It sounds a little tricky sometimes.

I have had some pup for me, and cutting the corm also works.

When I get to it sometimes on my plants. If it's not growing out of the pot or too large and blowing over it's good. I take some of mine out of a gal pot and put in the ground, that's the biggest pot...

To much water could be your problem, if you can help it drain away from the plant it may help. If you have trouble loading pics they may be too large.They need to be 2MB or smaller.

I would let them grow a little more. Next time you put it in a larger pot if they have some roots, it would be easy to separate the pups with it out of the pot.

I don't have a problem with grasshoppers, but if growing Banana's to eat you may what to watch what you use on the plants. I have used the water hose to blast bugs off of plants.

If it's growing out of the middle , dig up the whole corm and replant. If there are starts coming off of the sides of the corm you can cut them off if they are large enough and plant them else where.
