Re: Share an image!

Leave it alone, in a few weeks these warm temperatures will allow the bulb to sort itself out. Then it will taste better.

Re: Building/buying a container for a dwarf namwah?

Squirrels chew holes in the sides of my fabric pots! I also have to water the fabric pots more because they dry out quicker...

Some trade offs, but I'm going back regular plastic pots moving...

Re: Dwarf basjoo?

My friend does nothing and gets better results than me. I have better draining soil, rain water, and fertilizer but I couldn't match the growth. I think there must be a smaller type.....

Re: Dwarf basjoo?

I bought a basjoo off Amazon (i think) and I had that exact issue. My basjoo plants never got taller than 6' pstems and sometimes would flower in late fall. I fertilized and watered but they always...

Re: Spring uncovering!

Re: Spring uncovering!

They can handle a few hours of say 28F if the leaves are still rolled up and mostly inside the pstem. Any opened leaf will certainly die off.

IF you have that many plants, I'd keep them covered. ...

Re: Spring uncovering!

Sorry to hear that! I uncovered mine yesterday. I am in eastern PA and I saved about 3 foot of stem on my basjoo after a mild winter. I removed about 1 large brown bag of leaves from the top of...

Re: Small outdoor greenhouse for container plants

I actually gave away the greenhouse in a trade! I found that it was too much effort for little growth reward. On nights where the temperature dropped below 40F, I had to move all the plants into my...

Re: Voodoo lily question

Yea, what a wonderfully mild winter so far..!!

Hopefully my basjoos are healthy under the mulch outside and the fig trees should be strong since we didn't get extremely cold winds. My honeyberry...

Re: Indoor Dwarf Banana Folding Leaves

I water my indoor plants every two or three weeks. The plants are drought tolerant and getting decent growth over the winter is not really my focus. Just keeping things alive till spring is...

Re: Getting musa velutina to flower

Velutina takes 2 to 3 years for a flower for me in southeast PA. Unfortunately, I had all my flowers in early spring or late fall so I've never seen bananas fully develop. Timing is critical!! ...

Re: Advice on LED growlights/ do bananas require full spectrum

My red and blue LEDs are 660/460nm and contain no full spectrum content. The leds are 5Ws each and I have 80 of them on a panel. There are 12 full spectrum LEDs spread across the panel.

I get a...

Re: Advice on LED growlights/ do bananas require full spectrum

Just adding my 2 cents. I have plants in my unheated basement (55-60F) that grow with LEDs that are majority red/blue. There are about 15% of the LEDs that are full spectrum. The ~400w light...

Re: Donetta

Just wanted to add some other information about over wintering bananas. The link below shows how foam insulation can be used to make a banana hut. The designer keeps empty space around the pstems...

Re: Donetta

Your meter will work fine! You even added some water resistance which is all you need to last for one winter season.

I use this hand held meter pictured below (about $20 also on ebay). It uses...

Yes, mine act the same. Second year plants always do well for me and the pups come up faster and stronger. My basjoo did ok this year, I didn't push it hard since it was establishing roots but I...

Re: Donetta

I would wait for frost unless you get a true freeze first. Usually a frost just kills leaves since it only lasts a few hours.

I'm not sure what can be done with your fruit. Just enjoy them while...
