Re: 2018 Banana Patch: Pensacola, Florida

Thanks Deepsleep!

Did you get your Manzano from JFE? If so could you post some photos of how the bunch develops? I have an unkown from JFE that I suspect may be a Manzano but who knows.

Re: An Update Of My Latest Nana Plants 2018!

Hector do you treat the end of the rachis after you cut off the bell? I noticed that the end of the rachis looks pretty clean at the cut but mine (untreated) seem to develop a bit of mold/mildew on...

Re: 2018 Banana Patch: Pensacola, Florida

Hey Hector! Thanks!

The specialized solar bags would probably help getting through November and December with better gains. I'll try them out next season if I have a late September flower.

Re: 2018 Banana Patch: Pensacola, Florida

Its a normal namwa. I just named it that for fun. I peeled the pstem like an onion and then had to cut off about a third of the top due to rot after the winter. When it grew back it had two long...

Re: 2018 Banana Patch: Pensacola, Florida

Update!

Banana patch is in winter decline which is always sad! Temps have dropped with daytime highs in low 60's and overnight lows in the high 40's with some +/- 10F outliers. So far four overnight...

Re: Hanging Banana Bundle vs Cutting up into individual hands

Just saw the gif you made from flower to fruit. Pretty cool! Good job!

I've read some people harvest a few hands from the top of the bunch as needed for consumption instead of harvesting the whole...

Re: My full size indoor dwarf Cavendish

Looks like its been grown in a controlled environment to me. I don't see any leaf shredding, white fly eggs, or sunburn marks on the leaves nor squirrel tracks on the trunk.

I came across this guy...

Re: An Update Of My Latest Nana Plants 2018!

Yeah, mine just started showing bronze on the leaves here and there after this latest brush with low 30's with clear skies. The deep blue-green summer leaf color has faded to a dusty, yellow green...

Re: An Update Of My Latest Nana Plants 2018!

Looking good Hector! The Praying Hands bunch is really cool. I'm gonna to add that one to my collection. I've heard a lot of good things about its vanilla taste.

Any of the recent cold weather make...

Re: 2018 Banana Patch: Pensacola, Florida

Thanks JCA!

I had back to back overnight lows in the mid 30's this past week and everybody looks fine with the exception of a couple six foot pups showing some very minor leaf spotting. No...

Re: Winterize ice cream banana

Pretty sure the leaves are fried. A lot of people cut the leaves off when transplanting pups but I would leave them on while repotting not to increase the plant shock. Cut them off after they turn...

Re: 2 Mystery Bananas

First one looks really cool. I like how the bracts curl back and stay on while the following hands open up.

Congratulations!

Re: Winterize ice cream banana

That one is pretty small. I would pot it up and put it in a southern window where it gets plenty of light and decent temps. It might not grow too much but it would have a quicker start when replanted...

Re: 2018 Banana Patch: Pensacola, Florida

You can have huge success in Jacksonville!

Southern California has an advantage because they don't get the winter freeze but they also don't get rain!! Play to your strength!! Rain plus Summer heat...

Namwa Update! Not sure how big the bananas usually get but they seem to be coming along. Our temps are starting to cool but hoping they will get filled out over the next month or so...

Re: An Update Of My Latest Nana Plants 2018!

Re: An Update Of My Latest Nana Plants 2018!

Per the first study, Kandrian with 826 days harvest cycling time has a harvest index (HI) twice Namwa! That doesn't seem accurate but I'm not familiar with Kandrian bunch size. Are they 2-3x...
