The issue is whether the temperatures below 7°C are sustained for hours, or just in passing before the morning sunrise.

If you are truly in zone 10 and your freezes are limited to a few overnight hours maybe a dozen times per year then most cultivars will grow there.

Expect 18 months from pup to inflorescence, then 3...

Frost forms from sublimation and depending on other conditions can occur from the low 40's and colder. Freezing of course forms at about 32F and colder....

In my past experience that can work well if the mesh also extends 18" above ground to create a short fence. Apparently gophers don't like to climb on metal.

Many members here grow their bananas in large pots -- outdoors for 2/3 of the year and indoors for winter.
