Re: I got my Variegated Florida!

I managed to kill my Florida! I had moved and mistook the Florida corm for another variety. I am limited on space, so I thought I would just plant the corm in a field and see what it did, expecting...

Re: I got my Variegated Florida!

Not in my experience. Although I have had one flower yet, so maybe not the most qualified to give advice!

The one I have going now I actually had abandoned for a while. It was just a corm and I...

Re: I got my Variegated Florida!

Glad to see the Florida is gaining popularity. I've had one for going into it's second year. They are beautiful plants, and fairly Hardy in my opinion. They are slow to propagate. I've had only...

Re: Is it possible for a dwarf cavendish to survive 9a zone?

I don't believe we were that low that much. I think only 4 or 5 nights around the 20 mark. One day it was below freezing for 6 it 7 hours, that's rare that it lasts that long here.

Re: Is it possible for a dwarf cavendish to survive 9a zone?

I'm 8b/9a. Mine made it. Wasn't pretty and lost all leaves, but it will survive. May lose the stem if it's a cold year, but you may be able to protect it with some effort.

Re: Dwarf Orinoco

I have a DO, that thing is a beast! Planted in ground in late February at about 18 inches and had fruit by November! Lost them to a cold snap unfortunately so I didn't get to try them. It's pups...

Re: Need some advice on planting a varigated banana

My Florida was growing in full sun and suffered the burn. It also did not seem to like the conditions there as it was a bit scraggly and had no pups after almost 8 months. I moved and...

Re: Before & after freeze pics Jan 2018. What fared the best?

I use accurite. I have the 5 in 1 station mounted about 8ft high and a ground level temp/humidity sensor with a ground temp probe. It allows you to view historical stats as well, pretty handy.

Re: Before & after freeze pics Jan 2018. What fared the best?

Here is the batch I dug out, just in case. All ready to move to their new home across town in about 2 weeks. Good to know I don't need to bother digging them out next year (my first winter with...

Re: Before & after freeze pics Jan 2018. What fared the best?

It seems I can only post pics from Flickr from an actual computer, ipad and phone don't play well with it I guess.

Anyway, I got back from Mexico expecting a pile of mush. Surprised to see my...

Re: An Interesting ABB Pup

Re: Before & after freeze pics Jan 2018. What fared the best?

Well I went ugly early. I cut down all but two of the six. I'm not talking those two in the move anyway so o figured we will see what happens. My dwarf Orinoco corm is huge! I had to muscle...

Re: Before & after freeze pics Jan 2018. What fared the best?

I wish I had gotten some before pics. We are already suffering up here. All leaves are dead and I fear stems will not last the night. Ground temp is 52 going into tonight, we lost 3 degrees...

Re: What to do after cold damage?

Crap, just looked at the long range and saw that too. Below freezing for like 10hrs! Stupid weather man keeps insisting on warmer than normal, but so far it's the opposite! I may dig a few or and...
