Re: ABB Bananas
Never paid a lot of attention to AAB, ABB, AAAA, etc. Never seen any difference in water requirements between bananas. Biggest issue is temps. Hawaiian varieties, red varieties, Cavendish types are...

Re: Mice eating harvest!
Get "rat bars" and wire them around the flower stem above the bunch so that rats/mice come to them before the reach the bananas. They are generally about an inch square and about 1-1/2 - 2" long and...

Re: Should I harvest
As long as it is above freezing, let them be. When it gets close to freezing or below there are two choices: 1) cut them and hang them in an above freezing space or 2) find a way to keep them above...

Re: Banana down
Al long as the flower stem inside still has connection it will still ripen on the plant. Support the weight of the bunch and do not move it around and do further damage. You cannot fix this, only...

Re: First freeze - seeking advice
Freezing your bananas is not recommended. ;-)) If you are going to have many freezing days, you will definitely need to insulate them with something. I don't have this issue here in paradise, but...

Re: musa siam ruby overwinter
You don't want the minimum, you want a temp warm enough to encourage growth. At 55F it is probably a goner because it is so small.

Re: banana help!
You can't fix what damage is done. Best thing going forward is to keep them warm, so they can recover.

Re: musa siam ruby overwinter
If your heated tunnel has been working well so far, and is 70F plus it should be fine where it is. It is pretty small, so heat is the main ingredient.

Re: Banana fuel
Just use 15-15-15. You won't be able to tell the difference and the cost will be half or less.

Re: Spacing help
Yes and No.
Depends on width of the patch, in other words, how much squar-footage of root space is there.
If the three plants would be in and east west line, the dwarf would get equal son. If they...

Re: Quick Feeding Question + 1
From now till approx April, no need to fertilize, and water to keep soil damp. At these temps, growth slows dramatically. If you are not growing, you are not using/needing a lot of inputs (water and...

Re: Losing a Namwah, help me save it
75 degrees doesn't really excite a banana plant, and 55 definitely inhibits growth in many varieties. If you have even colder temps ahead, I'd be working on how to keep it warm.
Even if it loses all...

Re: Losing a Namwah, help me save it
55-75 night-day is winter. Plant growth will drop dramatically. Consider a temp greenhouse with some night heat till spring comes. Do not overwater, but do not let it fry out.

Re: A question about removing pups....
Keep some. Pups provide anchorage for the parent plant. When a plant flowers it stops producing new leaves and roots. With a heavy bunch of fruit hanging up high, swaying in the wind, the pups...
