Re: Blue Java Banana from Wellspring Gardens

I don't think anybody has received a true Blue Java from the more common internet suppliers but there are members on this site that can provide them. You will find out for sure in a year and half.

I...

Re: Donetta

I wish you the best but I have a bunch hanging in the dark, deep, corner of my little patch shadowed by the big namwas for six months. The filling is going on at a glacier's pace. That being...

Re: An Update Of My Latest Nana Plants 2019!

Hey Hector thanks for the update!

Are there two patupis in that photo? Looks like the main plant plus a plant/pup 3/4 the size of the main plant directly behind. I noticed it in an earlier photo you...

Re: 2019 Banana Patch: Pensacola, Florida

Thanks for taking a look Mari. I don't think so. I have tried Orinoco bananas (one time) and these don't taste like them. These have a great flavor when they are yellow and as I remember Orninoco...

Re: 2019 Banana Patch: Pensacola, Florida

I got two new flowers that popped this week. These are from an Unidentified plant that I have in my patch. Photos quality is not very good. I will make some photos as it develops and submit them at...

Re: An Update Of My Latest Nana Plants 2019!

Hector you should patent your banana planting technique. You have designed an assembly line for creating a banana forest! So many varieties and they all look great!

Make sure you get some good...

Re: 2019 Banana Patch: Pensacola, Florida

I have never removed those hermaphrodite/transition bananas from the bunch. They are a little to too close to the good bananas. Others might though.

Re: 2019 Banana Patch: Pensacola, Florida

There should be a few places within your area that sell fertilizer stuff. Farm supply stores in the country or landscaping supply stores in the city. Urea and Muriate of Potash are very common...

Re: 2019 Banana Patch: Pensacola, Florida

Yes but in addition to larger finger size I believe the remaining fingers develop slightly faster since more resources are available per banana finger after pruning. I'm not sure if that last part is...

Re: looking for several varities

Check with Ty on price for the varieties you are interested. Price depends on demand and supply of the product. In the Fall, I'm thinking supply is high and demand is low and in the Spring its the...

I've received a couple plants from Ty and they are thriving in my patch. I've never heard a negative thing about Ty on this blog and pretty sure he's supplied a lot of banana plants to people.

Its...

Re: Fusarium wilt ("Panama Disease")?

The weather has been hot and unusually dry. No rain for a month and solidly in the 90's. It has effected all my plants. Probably the same in your area. Water bill is going to be a killer this...

Re: 2019 Banana Patch: Pensacola, Florida

Mari,

I get my "stuff" from a local supplier to the landscape and lawn service industry (Ewing Irrigation) but any Farm and Tractor Supply store will have urea and muriate of potash in 50 lb bags. I...

Re: 2019 Banana Patch: Pensacola, Florida

Hello Mari!

I fertilize monthly using urea for nitrogen and potassium sulfate or muriate of potash for potassium. I apply postassium sulfate during the first half of the season and then switch to...

Re: 2019 Banana Patch: Pensacola, Florida

I pruned my 4th Namwa bunch today. The bunch consisted of 11 hands pre-pruning and 6 hands post-pruning. Painful! This plant was located a bit deep into the corner of my patch and doesn't get the...

Re: Hello from Tucson

The one on the left could be a namwa (larger plant) and the one on the right (smaller with wine stains on the leaves) would be the cavendish. Namwa does not have wine stains on the leaves.

Good luck!

Re: Bloom #2!!!!!!!!

Under summer conditions in Florida with plenty of water I believe a healthy Namwa will fill out in 4 months. Your plant thinks it has four months to mature 12 hands of bananas. In reality it probably...
