It's a great place to grow bananas. I'm on E. Main, about 1/4 mile north of Larrimore, but the main farm is just south of Sand Cut.

Some cultivars have strong apical dominance and will not put out suckers until it has made a flower. But, that is really only useful the first time around.

I've noticed with plantains it is more of a problem with heavy rain saturating the soil in hot conditions. But as was pointed out elsewhere, the cure is to harvest earlier.

Where on the island are you at? We went on an adventure trying to figure out where Ohana banana farms is. I met Mr. Young Tarring about 8 years ago and wanted to see his farm.

For absolutely healthy leaves, I don't know. I may cut a healthy leaf if the leaf is going to rub against the bunch. Perhaps, it is to permit better air flow in the plantation.
