Re: Blue Java? Need help to Identify this one
Definitely not Blue Java, but also not Namwah which it is typically mixed up with. Looks more like Dwarf Brazilian, but with some odd traits, could just be a tissue culture off-type, or the result of...

Re: Looking for help on id of this one.
It's either Dwarf Brazilian or Raja Puri, they are almost the same and often very difficult to tell apart unless growing side by side. If I had to choose though Id lean towards Dwarf Brazilian as...

Re: Quite possibly the biggest banana cultivar
Almost every sentence in that article is false, down to PNG being a “small country”. None of the photos are of M. ingens, and none of the info about it is correct. Sorry, but this article is...

Re: Looking for help on id of this one.
I have some good ideas but to be sure, post another photo in a few weeks once it develops a bit more as it's still a bit young to give a solid ID. Leave on the male bud the make it easier for us to...

Re: Need ID help
It's 'Dwarf Cavendish'. There are lots of variants which are slightly different from one another, so you may notice some inconsistencies between sources of plants, but they are all pretty similar.

Re: Please help ID this fruiting banana
It's fine to self/inbreed them, there is no real problem with it for propagation. On some species there is actually a small window of time where you can use the first male flowers to pollinate the...

Re: Please help ID this fruiting banana
Well, kinda neither, but more importantly, you won't be getting fruits at all.
Musa basjoo is a wild species, it requires pollination to make seeded fruits. However, since you presumably only have...

Re: Fruit not growing, remove the pups?
There are a number of reasons the fruit growth may have appeared to stall, but you are also impatient, In perfection conditions it takes 3-4months, so in your conditions as cooler weather is coming,...

Re: Panama Disease on Namwa?
Namwah is susceptible to Panama Wilt, but it is highly unlikely in your location, and the symptoms do not match. Your plant just appears to be dropping older leaves which is exceedingly normal....

Re: Banana nomenclature
Well, you better start believing it. It sounds like your question is really a matter of linguistics, and not one for banana researchers to justify, as we just try to capture the names as they are...

"Pacific Plantains" in the general sense is a name occasionally used to refer to a number of AAB subgroups in the Pacific, notably the Maoli-Popo'ulu and Iholena subgroups, but it is not an official...

Re: Banana nomenclature
That is just how the names are structured in those languages. Common cultivar names are not codified or made official in any way, they are simply what the people who steward those plants call them....

I don't see anything strange in the photo. It looks completely normal for the female phase of 'Dwarf Brazilian'. Do you have photos of the other plant you assume to be 'Dwarf Brazilian'?

Re: Gros Michel fruiting in Central Florida
Removing the bud only, especially after it has grown for some time, does next to nothing. The key is to remove the bud AND lower hands of fruit right as they are exposed. It's really the extra fruit...

Re: Gros Michel fruiting in Central Florida
Remove the bud and the lower 2-3 hands to push along the rest. The more you prune the larger the others may be able to get, but you want to balance it with having an ample amount of fruit. Also,...

Re: Help me ID this one!
It's 'Brazilian', aka 'Pome' or 'Prata'. In Hawaii they are called 'Apple', but "Apple" elsewhere typically refers to 'Silk'/'Manzano', which is not this plant.

Re: Mystery Musa! Gabe?
Unusually narrow leaves isn't a typical trait on edible cultivars, but can be a symptom of off-type mutation.
