Re: questions for usa forum members

At least in Florida, there's plenty of rural areas. The town I live in has two traffic lights, and it only has two because we had budget overage and the town next to us only had one so we put in a...

Re: questions for usa forum members

I live in Northeast Florida in the US.
Houses are all prices, from super cheap(think $75k for nice, lower for not-as-nice) to Million dollar homes. Land is similar, I can find land fairly cheap, less...

Re: 1st Frost for NE Florida ...

Even with my cold frame, the banana leaves are all wilted. All the planted bananas in the ground, even with heavy covers, all leaves wilted and terrible.

Ah well, I guess it's trimming time. They'll...

Re: Christmas lights, frost cloth, how to keep them alive in unheated greenhouse.

I got my cold frame done and most of my potted plants and several newly potted bananas in there with a clamp light.

The bananas still in the ground are covered up, most with several leaves removed...

Re: Christmas lights, frost cloth, how to keep them alive in unheated greenhouse.

I wrapped those small non-LED lights around a banana one year, then wrapped blankets around it and didn't get any burns. The larger old style bulbs will burn anything.

I just cobbled together a cold...

Re: Surf Fishin and fish tale thread

I've been fishing off the St Augustine pier(Vilano), the public docks in Palatka, and down to the Daytona Beach Sunglow pier. Actually caught a legal edible sheephead finally. I caught a lot of...

Re: What did you pot today (Bananas)

Actually, "tomorrow" loads more. I have more to dig up and I want to try to separate as many as possible. Abagnale has 6 pups!

I also made some cages to put over a couple, to fill with leaves. But...

Re: Christmas lights, frost cloth, how to keep them alive in unheated greenhouse.

I'm about to construct a plastic cold frame type thing for a bunch of my plants(and bananas). I'll put a light in there and that should keep it all warmed. If I get really enthused, I'll put a layer...

Re: Is this a banana?

I think it looks like a banana. I'm no expert.

I would have rescued it too. I have a soft spot for neglected unwanted plants.

Re: Found these eating my passion vine - What to do?

I just had them on one of my vines. I let them eat. It only seemed like a few days and the vine will recover. And I get awesome butterflies!

Re: Surf Fishin and fish tale thread

Since I've lived here all my life, alligators don't bother me. Unless I happen on a really large bull gator or a female on a nest, generally they won't bother you. As a kid, we used to tag the big...

Re: Surf Fishin and fish tale thread

I will keep it in mind for sure. I'm always looking for places to fish without a boat.

Re: Surf Fishin and fish tale thread

Not yet, I had to drive to Tampa(that ended up in St Pete), so I made a fishing trip out of it. I'm hoping that next weekend or the one after I'll go back down to Daytona pier.

Re: Surf Fishin and fish tale thread

Last weekend I hit the Skyway Pier in St Petersburg/Tampa. There were the expected dolphins all over. Still didn't catch much in the way of fish, although I got a lot of small grunts and a jack.

Re: Surf Fishin and fish tale thread

I just went pier fishing in Daytona Beach, FLorida. It was about a two hour drive, but the pier has a restaurant too, and with the menu and the fishing, I figured it was worth the drive.
I ended up...

Re: Rant of the Day..

Well, I took a day off work because I'm sick. I got a text from my boss.

It seems that I groomed a dog a MONTH ago and the owner brought the dog in to the vet YESTERDAY and said I cut it's...

Re: Fishing/boating accidents

The first guy, oh, been there with a nice treble hook jammed into flesh. Treble hooks SUCK because it never seems like they nab you in a way that you can get it out easily. Regular hooks are usually...

Re: What's the best way to catch a Cat?

Live traps usually work well. If you don't have any, check your local humane society or shelters or animal control to see if they have one you can borrow.

Re: Is there anything I can do about raccoons?

At my old place, I would live trap raccoons and the local hunt clubs would come by and pick them up to relocate onto their hunt clubs. They chased raccoons with hounds so they wanted good healthy...
