Re: Blue Java Journal

Hey CB, was wondering if you could share your opinions on how Blue Java bananas taste. I realize it's purely subjective, but I'm curious to hear your thoughts.

Thanks!

Re: Not Rajapuri?

Well, the bunch finally started to yellow on me, so I harvested. Ended up with 10 hands, 126 bananas.

Tastewise, my palate isn't nearly as refined as others here, but I'd have to say these are...

Re: Bluefield Banana Variety (Hawaii)?

Hi Susan,

I'll see if he can give me a positive ID on your pics. Guessing he likely won't remember too many details since this was about 40+ years ago. I'll report back with any info.

Thanks Lau. If memory serves, I believe mine came from LaVerne Nursery as well (via the Westchester Armstrong).

I'll post some better pics when i get home, but here's an old one I put up when it was still small. They're not open nor completely closed, but definitely closer to closed than open (<==perfectly...

Not Rajapuri?

Hey Folks,

The first banana plant i ever bought was advertised as Rajapuri by Armstrong. Being naive, i kept clinging to the idea that it really was what they claimed it was.

I posted pics when...

Re: Raja Puri Blooming?

Thanks for the info, CB. Good to know others have similar experiences here.

I didn't take a pic of the bunch...I believe it put out 7 hands, but didn't get a count of fingers prior to commencement...

Re: Raja Puri Blooming?

....and they're finally ripe. Wow, that took a long time (9 months from appearance of bloom to ripe). Is that fairly normal?

As for the taste, I must say it's very similar to the DB/"Apple...

Sul-Po-Mag Sources

Just wondering where city folk buy this stuff in the big (50#) bags. I've looked in the big home improvement stores around LA, but get blank stares when I ask about it. I guess I shouldn't be...

Hammocked, those pics are a little deceiving. The Rajapuri is sitting on a pretty high hill. It's not really as tall as the garage it's next to.

Re: The Noobs Naners

Andreas, I just took another look at my pics and I can see how the wrong impression was given. It actually sits on a rise next to the neighbor's garage in that pic, and with no ground reference, it...

Neighborhood Banana

Hey folks,

Not my banana, but this is one that I was aware of existing in my neighborhood. Never took a close look at it until recently. Guessing it doesn't get a whole lot of attention, but seems...

The Noobs Naners

Hello all,

Just wanted to show off the nice pups that Momoese (Mitchel) donated to my budding banana collection, along with two others that I bought pre-Bananas.org.

Here's the Dwarf Brazilian he...

Thanks Jerico! Quite a stable of bananas you have there. I still have a hard time believing how many varieties people on this board grow.
