Re: Potted Dwarf Cavendish (I think) leaves getting smaller and samller

I just fertilized a couple days ago assuming that may be the issue. Not sure what's the best method / frequency / type of fertilizer to use. I'm not sure of the exact species as I just bought it from...

Re: Potted Dwarf Cavendish (I think) leaves getting smaller and samller

Lighting has only changed based on the seasons. I don't remember this happening last summer though. Here are some pictures. You can see the smaller leaves up top.

Potted Dwarf Cavendish (I think) leaves getting smaller and samller

Strange thing here. I bought this plant a couple years ago already potted and fully grown. There's been no change in location, care, or anything but the past couple months the new leaves are getting...

Re: What will happen if I don't cut my bananas down for the winter?

What do you mean by cleanup in the spring? I know the question seems repetitive, but I did the opposite last year so not sure what to expect this time.

What will happen if I don't cut my bananas down for the winter?

I have two pretty large plants outside (in Atlanta) that I was given as gifts as babies. Don't know what species but they're not cold tolerant. Last year I cut them down after the first freeze and...

Did I kill my nanners?

Based on advice from people here and a neighbor who gave me some plants, I cut down my three outdoor banana plants after the first freeze and covered them in pine straw. I had planted these maybe 6...

Re: First freeze - seeking advice

Well once again, conflicting advice :)

Just seems to be how it is with plants. I may run an experiment and leave one to just die off on its own and cut and mulch the other and see what happens.

First freeze - seeking advice

I have a couple plants - not sure what species as they were gifted to me - that I planted late this summer. They're about 4 feet tall, and last week we got our first freeze. The person who gave them...

Re: Cut Mine Back For The Winter........

Curious what happens if you don't cut the plants back or mulch at all over the winter. I'm in Atlanta too and not sure what I should do with mine.

Re: Anybody know what these are?

Interesting. I wonder if there's a way to find out for sure. She said she has to cut them down every winter so maybe they're not Basjoo.

Anybody know what these are?

A neighbor has a whole forest of them, and said she doesn't know what they are. She gave me a few pups so I'd love to know that they are. The tallest ones were...

Re: Ensete Maurelii - Black areas on old, new leaves and stem

About the same really. New leaf came in with a weird black area and didn't quite fully unfurl. The plant isn't getting worse though and it looks like another new leaf may be coming.

Ensete Maurelii - Black areas on old, new leaves and stem

https://imgur.com/gallery/zw1raVP

The new plant (about 8") seems otherwise healthy and has put out two new leaves since I got it about a month ago. However, this is the first time the new leaf has...

Re: Can mealybugs do this kind of damage?

Without posting more pics, needless to say the one with the 'nibbler' that ate straight through the stem appears to be dying. All the leaves are turning brown and folding in and the stem is turning...

Re: Can mealybugs do this kind of damage?

BioAdvanced 3in1 insect, disease, and mite control. Doesn't contain any fertilizer as far as I know. I've actually never fertilized these plants because they're so small. Wondering if I should.

Re: Can mealybugs do this kind of damage?

Here are some pictures showing various damage including mealybug honeydew and holes chewed right through a new leaf (that leaf died before it even unrolled).

Re: Can mealybugs do this kind of damage?

I had them in my backyard which is full of other plants. I hope you're right about the recovery. I see so many big beautiful bananas driving around Atlanta and it makes me wonder why mine are having...

Re: Can mealybugs do this kind of damage?

I definitely have mealybugs. The leaves have been covered in that residue and I have seen the bugs as well. I sprayed them with some 3 in 1 but the bugs came back. I'm going to keep them inside for...

Can mealybugs do this kind of damage?

I've been waging a constant battle against mealybugs (and maybe some other invisible foe), and feels like I'm losing. I've lost multiple leaves from multiple new plants, and today I noticed...

Re: Hole in new leaf before it even opens

What kind of nibbler may this be? Something that I should spray for to eliminate?

Hole in new leaf before it even opens

See a photo here:

I've seen some similar holes on other leaves (both Basjoo and Blue Javas), but never before they even open. Is this simply something eating them or...
