At 32 mine often stay green. If it is long enough it can brown them. So my answer from my yard would be yes and no. I didn't lose any stalks on the varieties you mentioned even at 23 degrees for 9...

The word is glaucous. Cactus people commonly use that word for that description of blue, gray, or powdery giving the impression of blue or gray.

In Florida sometimes palm weevils get down in the corms. I have had great luck using beneficial nematodes. I apply every spring and fall and no grubs.

I have the same problem here. The only solution I have come up with making the soil not so compact and dense. I use lots of biochar and organic stuff like leaves and wood chips. In my worst areas...
