Re: Patupi

I do like this plant even though it has been the most difficult banana that I've grown.

I can imagine that it is probably for all the reasons mentioned. In the summer, some weeks are extremely...

Re: What did you pot today (Bananas)

How large is your patupi? I think you had it for 2 or 3 years now... Do you think it will flower next year?

Re: Donetta

Hi Mari

I have noticed that in my area of Pennsylvania, my nana plants practically stop growing by October. Overnight lows are usually in the 40s by this time. I usually wait a few more weeks and...

Re: What did you pot today (Bananas)

Hi Mike,

Yes, the patupi is very good at pupping. It usually throws several pups right before the main plant dies back! This year I had my plant get 2' tall before that happened. I think it got...

Re: What did you pot today (Bananas)

I just potted these 3 pups earlier this week. Patupi, Veinte cohol, and Dwarf Chamaluco pups. I know it is late in the season and this is probably the last week of warm weather in PA. I hope to...

Re: Asimina Triloba (Paw Paw)

That one on the left is huge!

Has it flowered? Since sunflower is self fertile (I think), it should fruit without a second plant.

Re: Japanese Beetle attack

Interesting that basjoo seems to be a favorite! Not just my observation :)

I've used seven in the past and may try it again in the future. I have enough neem oil for another year. The beetle...

Re: Voodoo lily question

I bought them off ebay in November and they were advertised to be flowering size. (Didn't happen this year!) Still new to this plant but they look cool.

That's good advice for winter! I will dig...

Thanks for your reply. I think I have venosum based on pictures.

Glad to hear that some types wither. I wasn't sure what to expect.

Voodoo lily question

Hi everyone!

I was wondering if it is normal for a voodoo lily stem to curl up and have it's leaves die at this time of year. The leaves were large and healthy for a long time. Smaller and...

Re: Asimina Triloba (Paw Paw)

Thanks. Those are Shenandoah fruits. I also have a susquehanna tree but that one only flowered and didn't fruit.

In the morning, I spray diluted neem oil on my paw paw tree leaves. I do this...

Hi all,

Summer is in full swing and I have 10 fruits forming on my tree. The tree is now over 5' tall and looks very healthy. I have had to spay for japanese beetles but otherwise all has been...

Japanese Beetle attack

Hi there

Well it looks like this week is the start of Japanese beetle season in Pennsylvania. My canna lilies, paw paw trees, and bananas are under attack.

Surprisingly, the basjoo and velutina...

Re: Patupi

Glad to hear you are having some success with Patupi!

No bloom here, but I was finally able to get consistent growth. My tap water PH was probably killing my plant last year. My water PH is 8.5...

Thanks for all the comments!

Here is a picture from today, 1.5 months later. When one banana leaf opens, a new cigar leaf is inside already pushing up. I never had such consistency in growth, so...

Re: early bloom

Congrats!

Maybe you can increase your fertilizer application to see if that helps any fruit to fill in / ripen.

I water just in the morning - typically. I think water at night is ok if the temperature stays above maybe 60F....

The biggest downside to watering in the morning, is that my grass is wet so I have...

Re: New to banana plants!

I would put it outside, but keep it out of full sunlight until several nice leaves form. Once outside, you can water every few days as needed.

Good luck!

Re: New to banana plants!

Hi Kristen

Congrats on your new banana ownership!

I live in eastern PA so the growing conditions we have are similar. If you have browning leaf edges, I think you are watering too much. When...
