Re: What controls finger length?

It's kind of an art based on experience but basically as soon as the bracts lift off the last hand that I want, I will cut the rest of the bunch off. I try to cut as early as I can. I have...

Re: Williams Hybrid vs Gran Nain

This one looks like 'Grand Nain' or 'Dwarf Cavendish', a little hard to tell for sure without seeing it up close. 'Grand Nain' is essentially a large 'Dwarf Cavendish', and 'Williams' a somewhat...

Re: Williams Hybrid vs Gran Nain

Yes, that is basically correct.

In the context of the photos above, you must look at the flowers directly above the male bud. The ones in the third photo of 'Williams' right after the last fruits...

Re: Anybody growing a Mahoi (Double)?

How do the harvests of Doubles and DC's compare in terms of weight?

If the Double's bunches are each the same weight as a DC bunch, then the Double would produce twice as many pounds of fruit as...

Re: How long until I can harvest my fruit?

As for harvesting early or fruits that don't fill in even after 7 months, they do eventually ripen like this bunch of neglected Hawaiian Apple. Malnourished and bloomed at the wrong time. The bigger...

Re: How long until I can harvest my fruit?

It depends on the climate where the banana is planted.
In my place of 9a, it takes almost 5 months till the fruits
begin to turn yellow on the tree.

Re: How long until I can harvest my fruit?

In my area 6-7 months to ripen on the plant, but they can be cut down sooner and will still ripen just fine.

Re: Anybody growing a Mahoi (Double)?

The one being sold as Double Mahoi in the trade is just a mutant Dwarf Cavendish and so can't be much different from DC, aside from throwing double bunches. Apparently, the real Hawaiian Mahoi...

Re: Williams Hybrid vs Gran Nain

They are very similar, but they are distinct cultivars. 'Williams' is a shorter tall Cavendish variety, and 'Gran Nain' is taller dwarf Cavendish. The fruit size and bunch size are very similar, and...

I've grown both before and I can't tell any difference. That's why when I order them, I make sure and tag them right away. Otherwise they could get mixed up.
