Re: Dwarf Cavendish

We just dropped down to 40f and I have pots of Musa acuminata that did fine.

Last spring I threw a couple of pups in my compost pile and by the end of the summer they were over four feet tall! They...

Re: What is going wrong with my banana this winter?

Peat retains moisture, but it is very difficult to re-wet once it dries out.

Re: What is going wrong with my banana this winter?

I think you are overwatering.

Here is one of my dwarf cavendish (https://i.imgur.com/XZLRuVT.jpg) I brought indoors about a month ago. About half a gallon of water every 7 days. During summer...

Re: funguscide dip for REPLANTING SUCKERS

Definitely dilute the bleach.

You're going to want 6% sodium hypochlorite bleach. Concentrated will be 8%, and for the love of all things good, don't buy scented or splashless bleach as these...

Re: started bringing plants inside

I'm going to try chopping back half of my pots.

You're right, the leaves I bring inside don't make it long. And the leaves produced inside don't make it outside in the spring!

That way I can enjoy...

Re: Bringing Dwarf Cavendish inside for winter?

I kept a couple of five gallon pots inside last winter and they have been killing it on my front porch this year (and a couple of "volunteers" in the compost pile!).

Just reduce watering drastically...

Re: To Rotate Or Not Rotate? That Is The Question.

Those pots have about 3-4" of styrofoam in the bottom so they aren't as heavy as they would be full of planting medium. They're a bit tippy but they drain as well as my pots of cactus full of gritty...

Re: To Rotate Or Not Rotate? That Is The Question.

Thanks everyone.

I've rotated my containers and they are looking straight and tall.

Six(!) containers of Dwarf Cavendish turning my porch into a jungle.

To Rotate Or Not Rotate? That Is The Question.

Since I'm keeping my container grown plants on the edge of my southwest facing porch they are obviously leaning towards the sun, albeit oh so slightly.

Should I rotate the containers to encourage...

Basjoo Fruiting Now

Zone 8a, we didn't have a particularly cold winter with temps only falling well below freezing twice. Should I just let nature run it's course?

Weather Rollercoaster

Ugh.

Just moved my Musa Acuminata Zebrinas out on the porch and now it's supposed to be 44f in the morning.

Too cold?

Or can I leave them out?

So I've got some Musa Basjoo that I want to dig up and move. Should I chop them down to make it easier?
