Re: Newest Banana Plant Arrivals - Damaged Ice Cream

Yeah it is great advice. I bought these three plants from a German store: Bananenstauden (http://frosthartepalmen.de/index.php/online-store/view/category/virtuemart_category_id/24).

Re: Newest Banana Plant Arrivals - Damaged Ice Cream

Yeah I was afraid that would be the case. I'll give them a couple of weeks of being outside in the day and inside overnight and see how they cope. What varieties have you managed to grow outside in...

Re: Newest Banana Plant Arrivals - Damaged Ice Cream

I'm going to try and grow them in large containers outside, during summer and them overwinter them indoors. I do have access to a family members greenhouse, so if the British summer doesn't go quite...

Re: Newest Banana Plant Arrivals - Damaged Ice Cream

Yeah I was surprised how big they were when they arrived, I was expecting them to be no bigger than the Dwarf Orinoco was. In the picture I had already repotted the Dwarf Orinoco, it arrived in a...

Newest Banana Plant Arrivals - Damaged Ice Cream

Today I received 3 new banana plants. I had ordered a Musa Dwarf Orinoco, Musa Dwarf Namwah and a Musa Ice cream.

The Dwarf Orinoco and Dwarf Namwah made it in one piece, but unfortunately the...

Re: Is this a Super Dwarf Cavendish?

So basically it still could be absolutely anything? Well I guess we will have to wait and see if it survives long enough to produce a flower. Unless there is someway to get it DNA tested lol :D

Re: Is this a Super Dwarf Cavendish?

Thanks! I really wish they would label them with their proper names, but I guess you are right, it's so they can't be blamed if they get the name wrong.

Re: Is this a Super Dwarf Cavendish?

Thanks for your speedy reply! I found a website on the label of the plant and when I looked on it, I found they only had one variety of banana "Musa tropicana" which I know is a made up name. And...

Hiya Is this a Super Dwarf Cavendish?

Today I went to my local Lidl supermarket and they had an offer on their plants, so I decided to buy this banana plant. It's a good job I got there when I did because it was the last one. The problem...

Re: Hello from Bolton, UK

Thank you! Yeah, like you pointed out it might zone 8b but our summers probably don't reach the required temperatures for edible bananas. I will keep my eye out for musa basjoo. I don't intend living...

Re: Hello from Bolton, UK

Yeah it's quite hard to reach 30C. My first seedling sprouted after a few weeks when it was in just a little bit of water on top of the radiator, so I guess it must have reached a high enough...

Hiya Re: Hello from Bolton, UK

Thank you for the information. I did think that it would be very unlikely to be able to over winter them here, but I am going to still try anyway. And my house still has an airing cupboard with the...
