Re: Is that a flower!? o_O

I'm sorry, that's disappointing you can't at least identify it.

Congratulations on the Orinoco flower! :woohoonaner: It's looking good. Looks like it's got some leaves so you should be in for some...

Re: Is that a flower!? o_O

Unfortunate it decided to flower now, but congrats! Like you said, hopefully you will be able to confirm it's the real one.

Re: My First Bananas of the Year

Congratulations! I really like Raja Puri. In my opinion they are the best a couple days after turning yellow and then they are sweet and tart. It's the only banana variety I have found that I like...

Re: Anyone growing FHIA-03 Sweetheart?

I got one small bunch and took the plant out. The fruit were very, very mushy even when just turned yellow. Flavor wasn't really good either. Maybe it was just conditions. But apparently some people...

Re: Are these Corm Borers??

Hello everyone! :nanadrink:

Banana pups are coming up everywhere. Since I found banana borers, I haven't sold any pups. I have only found borers on that one plant. I've dug up old corms and pups...

It's "the Manzano". It's been affirmed by Gabe.

Re: Are these Corm Borers??

I think you need to stop obsessing and let the plant do its thing. It's very doubtful you would have borers in NC, and the tree was healthy and doing great until you started digging around and...

Re: Are these Corm Borers??

That's interesting!

I grow a handful of varieties, all dessert bananas, no plantains. If you want you can see what I am growing, they are in my profile. I haven't found weevils on any other banana...

Re: Florida freeze

In Orlando most leaves that were not covered are dead. Going to have some miserable puny dwarf Cavendish bunches. Some bunches were mature enough that they will be fine, just not fill out any more.

Re: Valor_X & Backyard Banana Joe - Who can fruit a Praying Hands pup first?

Valor_X, that's horrible. Really stinks it had to flower right now. That large sucker is looking good, hopefully it will flower mid-summer. My bunch ripened and were pretty good! You definitely have...

Re: Mystery Banana - Need help identifying this one!

I would say a Tall Orinoco. It could be a Dwarf Orinoco because itís short, but it has a thin trunk so I would say itís a Tall (Dwarf bananas tend to have thick trunks).

Re: What did you harvest today (bananas)

Amazing! 70lbs is incredible.

My Dwarf Cavendish is blooming late, again, just like last year. Probably another under filled, blossom end rotted bunch, due to be harvested in February when the...

Re: Valor_X & Backyard Banana Joe - Who can fruit a Praying Hands pup first?

Your Praying Hands looks great! Those leaves coming out are regular surfboards! :08:

The bunch is filling in slowly, so maybe two more months.

Re: Valor_X & Backyard Banana Joe - Who can fruit a Praying Hands pup first?

People are usually trying to get rid of plastic nursery pots. You can also probably go to a plant nursery and ask if they have some you could have.

Re: Pisang Ceylon

Awesome! My bunch ripened as well but I haven't posted pics yet. I would say that taste description is definitely accurate. Manzano is still my favorite, but they were delicious. One thing I will...

Re: Is the clear liquid that comes out of the sides of the *leaves* banana sap?

The only time a banana plant bleeds sap is when it is cut or injured in some way.

Re: Ensete Banana Questions

That is incredible. If I had room for ornamental bananas I would totally get one!
