Re: Prevention from choking

Many of mine tend to do that, it is some kind of problem in the corm. I call it the umbrella effect, the leaves keep coming out, but the pseudostem never gets taller, eventually resembling an...

Re: Harvest? 32F-34F tonight

I had a 3640 that lost all it's leaves to a 26 degree freeze a month after it finished flowering but I covered the bunch and it survived. They filled out most of the way before the peduncle bent in...

Re: Hitting Reset and refocusing a bit

Nick, I know you got rid of the bananas in your yard, still crying over it, but do you still have the 3 acre patch down the road between the rr trax and levy? You had Williams and Hua Moa, etc. there

Re: Cold hardy good tasting dwarf banana's

Orinoco are cold hardy but not very tasty if you want a sweeter dessert type banana.
Dwarf Brazilian and Dwarf Namwah both still get up to 11 feet (3.35 m.) tall plus leaves, so you know. Just some...

Re: My New 2160 sq ft Musa Research Greenhouse!

Wow... Great thing to do, man... If it works I may be interested in hosting phase 2... Growing specialty bananas for sale is something I would like doing.
Seriously, awesome, man.

Re: How to ID Dwarf Brazilian?

The pic you posted is the Dwarf.
Most persistent growth on the rachis of any banana I know of. Nothing falls off it. I find it funny how the tall is completely clean. Delicious banana. In my top 5.
I...

Does hanging bunches upside down slow ripening?

I had someone tell me he has personally done it several times and it spreads out ripening time so you don't have to eat them all at once. Anyone know about this from experience?

Re: Hello Banana Group!!

Welcome to the banana nut club.

As far as recommendations, you have Brazilian, good one. My number 3 fave. #2 is Gros Michel and #1, a little tougher to come by, is Paggi.

Hope it helps!

Re: Unknown variety from Mexico

Mexicans sure do love their Manzanos... They aren't bad once they get spots, too acidic when just yellow where I prefer most bananas.

Re: Just got my Gros Michel fruit order

My best description would be a slightly creamier, slightly sweeter more pungent banana flavor than a Cavendish. Not worlds apart, same basic flavor, banana flavor, but notably better tasting than...

Re: Just got my Gros Michel fruit order

They look about right for home grown GM bananas. You will likely know for sure when you taste them.
You know how every once in a while you buy a few cavendish at the store and they are just...

Re: how many hours can banana take of 32 degree?

Brazilian are as tough as any musa when it comes to cold. Also very pest and disease resistant... Pup machines as well.
That said, leaf loss begins with pretty much any time below 32, the longer it...

Re: First banana ever bought! What variety?

YAY! I was thinking DB before I saw what our resident experts said...The extra messy rachis was one thing, but the way the fingers go every which way is a tell also, at least to me, of Brazilians......

Re: Tales of SH-3640's

One thing about 3640 is how it tends to grow quickly to a point then seems to begin a dwarf growing pattern in the last few months before flowering. Also the PS is like a tree trunk...
