I had someone tell me he has personally done it several times and it spreads out ripening time so you don't have to eat them all at once. Anyone know about this from experience?

Re: Hello Banana Group!!

Welcome to the banana nut club.

As far as recommendations, you have Brazilian, good one. My number 3 fave. #2 is Gros Michel and #1, a little tougher to come by, is Paggi.

Hope it helps!

Re: Unknown variety from Mexico

Re: Just got my Gros Michel fruit order

My best description would be a slightly creamier, slightly sweeter more pungent banana flavor than a Cavendish. Not worlds apart, same basic flavor, banana flavor, but notably better tasting than...

Re: Just got my Gros Michel fruit order

They look about right for home grown GM bananas. You will likely know for sure when you taste them.
You know how every once in a while you buy a few cavendish at the store and they are just...

Re: how many hours can banana take of 32 degree?

Brazilian are as tough as any musa when it comes to cold. Also very pest and disease resistant... Pup machines as well.
That said, leaf loss begins with pretty much any time below 32, the longer it...

YAY! I was thinking DB before I saw what our resident experts said...The extra messy rachis was one thing, but the way the fingers go every which way is a tell also, at least to me, of Brazilians......

When the flower opens, how many petals open at once and how do they open? Do they open flat or curl? 3640 open 2 at a time and they curl up before dropping, plus the male flower is heart shaped....
