Re: Highgate and Dwarf Nam Wah

Wouldn't dwarf cavendish be similar to GM? I know GM was better than cavendish but at least it wouldn't require propping.

Re: Just Received Banana aeae 🍌 and need root advice

I've never seen anyone recommend soaking in water. Mainly they pot up corms in very well draining mix with perlite so that you don't get any rot. You can cut off the old roots. It will need to grow...

Re: *Help* Pups don't grow

Re: Opinions on how many pups to remove

You have a similar dilemma with your blue java as I have with my dwarf namwa, the pups seem to be overtaking the main mother plants, I will eventually separate them because they are so big they...

Herbicides are very bad for bananas, and for humans for that matter.

Re: Can you control which pup fruits?

My Goldfinger took just 15 months from TC, my tall Namwah took 16 months from TC, and my Raja Pisang took 2 yrs from TC. I'm assuming had this one not fallen over in a storm it would have bloomed by...

Question Can you control which pup fruits?

I have a dwarf namwah stand that has struggled since the beginning, I think it just got too hot or too dry in the dry season and then during a tropical storm over a yr ago the mother plant leaned...

I found this article from a member here about pushing growth to get a rack quicker: Fertilizer – Bananapups.com (http://www.bananapups.com/fertilizer/)

Re: *Help* Pups don't grow

We have pups! I cut down the mother plant after the end of Jan. freeze because it had lost all of it's leaves and it didn't seem like the bunch would ripen, although now I've learned that maybe they...

Re: What Should I Do? New to Bananas

Separating the pups if you have a lot of space will help you to grow more bananas though. Typically we save three per mat.

Re: Am I killing my first bananas?

Sounds like you have already figured out to check for overwatering. I have found when people are asking about this the usual culprit is either too much or not enough water. But it can also be the pot...

Re: Banana variety help

If it doesn't have to be edible why not Basjoo? It is more cold hardy than all other bananas. You can get it from multiple nurseries online. The most tall that are widely available would be the Saba...

Re: It's happening!

Takes 4 months depending on variety, that's with warm temps. Don't take pups off until the bananas have all set.

Re: Tasty bananas

These are the only ones I've tried and I'd rate them as least to best: cavendish, grand nain, goldfinger, manzano. Hoping to try a few more this yr as my plants mature!

Re: Florida freeze

Thanks everyone, I do think I fared pretty well. Just a bummer that even in a 9b/10a climate you can get some freezing temperatures. Thankfully not for very long. I've lived here now for 3 winters,...
