Hopi Pale Grey Squash

This year I planted 2 plants of Hopi Pale Grey, with the hopes of getting a decent harvest. To most, 6 plants per vine is considered a good harvest, with them ranging 8 to 10 pounds average, and some...

Re: Breeding with giants - The Variegated Tani

Thats very interesting, thank you for showing me that.

I didn't know you could shorten its vegetative growth, as I always thought bananas had a set number of leaves that have to emerge before...

Re: Breeding with giants - The Variegated Tani

One way to reduce height is to completely cut down the stalk to 3 feet or so once it's gained some decent height. I have a tall braz. that flowered at around 7 feet that I did that to. Sure it sets...

Re: Opinions on the price of variegated bananas

I think the prices of the variagated bananas are absolutely ridiculous. I wont pay those prices personally. I think its another fad buy and will go the way of the tulip craze/bubble of the 1600s....

Re: Bordelons!

Excellent advice. However, I have already done that, and add back in the minerals and other components missing from the soil. Florida is notorious for having poor soil, and it is real important to do...

Re: Bordelons!

You gave me one, and I do agree with you. Mne is still growing fine, but it is smaller than other specimens of Bordelons I have seen. It wont grow taller than 4 feet, and the leaves are shorter too.

Re: Orinoco Regular

My apologies for the late response. I do still have pups available, and it is the standard type.

For the record, the so called XL version has shown to be a dud. It did not produce large fruits, and...

Re: Almost Naked Orinoco Bloom

Thank you for your response. Can you tell me how big the bananas were when you happened upon them? Is the pic you posted, a photo of when you spotted them?

Re: Almost Naked Orinoco Bloom

I keep hearing that a banana plant can mature fruits, even if it had little to no leaves, but has a pup with leaves. My experience has shown this to be incorrect. In fact, this year my Saba bloomed...

Re: Banana flowers without leaves

I hope your right Luisport. I have a saba flowering right now, with burned leaves. It does continue to grow, but I question if the bananas can fill out enough to eat..
